Description
Lake St. Historic Railroad Overpass is located in Whitehall, MI. It was built in 1930. It main span length is 23 ft. and structure length is 88.6 ft. It's an example of a wood and steel combination bridge. Constuction includes Metal Stringer (Multi-Beam), Fixed and Approach Spans: Wood Stringer (Multi-Beam), Fixed. This bridge is primarily of wood construction, with wooden bents and wooden stringer spans. The main span over the road however is a steel stringer. This bridge is an example of a type that was commonly used by railroads to cross water and changes in elevation, but does not often appear as a grade separation. Such bridges would often be all wood, or in some cases the substructure would be wood and the superstructure would be steel stringers. It is rated No. 1 Nationally and No. 2 locally in the National Bridge Inventory Report NBI number 615728800042X01
